Annella vielä hieman alle 2 kuukautta laskettuun aikaan. Vaihdoimme kesällä asuntoa hieman suurempaan, sen takia olimme välissä hetken aikaa vuokralla Länsimäessä Itä-Helsingissä.

Still a bit less than 2 months until Anne is due to give birth. We changed our apartment to a slightly bigger one, and because of this, we needed to stay for a while in Länsimäki in eastern Helsinki.

Elokuun 1. päivä, olemme päässeet kuukautta aikaisemmin muuttamaan ostamaamme asuntoon Vantaan Myyrmäessä, ja viimeistään nyt alkaa sekä Annea että Pekkaa jo pikkuisen jännittämään se, mitä myöhemmin tässä kuussa on luvassa!

First day of August, and we have moved to our new apartment in Myyrmäki (in Vantaa) one month before. We definitely started to be a little nervous about what´s coming up later this month!

Syntymäpäivä. Supistukset alkoivat kahden jälkeen aamuyöllä, tässä odotellaan synnytyssalissa puoli kahdeksan aikaan aamulla.

The birthday. Anne started to have contractions a bit after 2 a.m., and here we are waiting in the delivery room at about 7.30 a.m.

Synnytys oli rankka kokemus, jonka eri vaiheet jatkuivat sairaalassa noin 7 tuntia, kunnes kello 12.14 maapallo sai uuden asukkaan, poikalapsen, jota me olemme koko raskauden ajan kutsuneet työnimellä ´Pilke´ (kuten sanonnassa "pilke isän silmäkulmassa"). Kuvassa hän on alle 10 minuutin ikäinen.
Lapsen sukupuolen olimme pitäneet itseltämme pimennossa, joten asia valkeni vasta synnytyksen päätyttyä.

The birth itself was a tough experience, and its different phases lasted at the hospital for around 7 hours. At exactly 14 minutes past noon, this world received a new member into its population, a baby boy that we had during Anne´s pregnancy called ´Pilke´ (it means "twinkle" in English). He´s less than 10 minutes old in this photo.
We had also deliberately not wanted to know, if our child will be a boy or a girl, so this was only found out after birth.

Vietettyään ensin tunnin-pari lämpimässä äidin iholla, hänet pestiin ja punnittiin. Painoksi saatiin 3,415 kg ja pituudeksi 49cm.

After 1-2 hours resting on her mother´s breast, he was washed, and then taken measures. He weighted 3,415 kg and was 49 cms long.

Saimme sairaalasta mukavan perhehuoneen pariksi yöksi. Annen vanhemmat ja sisko tulivat pian visiitille katsomaan pikkuista.

We got a nice family-room for a couple of nights at the hospital. Anne´s parents and sister soon came to visit us, and see the little one themselves.

Hänen paras "turvapaikkansa" on tietenkin äidin rinnalla. Siinä hänet on helpointa nukuttaa.

Kesken hoitotoimenpiteiden. Huoneessamme oli hyvä hoitopöytä ja pesumahdollisuudet. Niille tosiaan onkin käyttöä!

Doing some ´maintenance´. Our room had a good table for these, and also the possibility to wash the baby. They really are used a lot!

Tarkastusten jälkeen saimme luvan lähteä kotiin. Tässä ylpeä isukki toi Pilkkeen ulos ja auringonvaloon, molemmat asiat ensimmäistä kertaa hänen elämässään!

After some checks we were cleared to go home. Here the proud father carried Pilke outside and into the sunlight, both of these things happened for the first time in this little boy´s life!

Auton turvakaukaloon kiinnittämisessä oli oma ohjelmansa, mutta toisaalta hän nukahti heti siihen päästyään (ja nukkui myös koko kotimatkan!)

Putting the baby into the car safety seat was a little problematic, but once we managed that, he instantly fell asleep (and slept all the way, when we drove him home!)
